Zoning and Land-Use Planning Grant Program
Established in 2005, this grant provides $500 to be used by the recipient to complete an independent study project relating to some aspect of zoning or land-use. Included with the grant is a one-year membership to VAZO and a paid trip to one educational conference sponsored by VAZO. The goal of the program is to support research and continuing education focused on Zoning and Code Administration.
The applicant either must be a resident of or employed in the state of Virginia since January 1 of the current year. The applicant must be a current student in good academic standing pursuing a degree in planning or an associated field and be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Additionally, the applicant must submit a plan to complete an independent study project relating to zoning and land-use, the results of which are to be presented to the Awards and Scholarship Committee at the Fall Conference following the year that the grant was awarded. The applicant must indicate in the plan for independent study which semester they plan to complete the project. Extensions may be granted at the will of the Awards and Scholarship Committee for multi-year projects. Funds will be paid to the institution or appropriate department as the scholarship committee sees fit to be used for materials or as compensation to the student.
